Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that CiTR 101.9 FM is broadcasting four UBC sports games live today starting at 1pm Pacific (4pm Eastern, 9pm in Ireland/England). We are starting with some volleyball (1pm and 3pm) then we'll have some women's hockey action before going to basketball (women at 6pm and men at 8pm).

The basketball will be especially good since it's UBC against SFU. Listen to us on FM at 101.9 FM (very good in the car) and on the net at www.citr.ca. Personally, I'll be helping out during the first volleyball game, then I'll do some women's hockey reporting before coming back for women's basketball.

Tune in for a little bit of sports on the radio. Commercial free for nine straight hours.

It's not a hoax! A letter came today confirming to my father that I had indeed won the 2004 Global TV Network Scholarship Award for a Canadian Visible Minority Student and that the phone call that I got last week was not an elaborate hoax created by one of my friends. He kept asking whether the letter had come from Global yet all week. As if some guy couldn't reporduce a letter if he was planning a huge hoax. Put up your hands if you are surprised that the phone call and letter was real. Isn't there a eyes-rolling smiley face on here somewhere? :rolleyes: x10000000

You have to love them because they are so damned entertaining. Yesterday, I got a phone call telling me I had won a scholarship from Global TV that would pay for my first year at BCIT. Naturally, I was excited. I later told my mom who later told my dad while I was at work. Today, I come home and my dad asks me about the scholarship and what it entailed. He was happy too. That's about $5000 less he has to pay for my schooling.

He asked about how I won and I told him that I had to apply and let them know about my "broadcasting experience." When told about how there was no actual interview and that the Global people picked the winners based on applications alone, my dad said, "I guess you were pretty lucky then." I agreed and that was the end of the conversation. So I thought. Three minutes later, my asks me in a very serious tone, "You know that scholarship, it isn't a friend playing a trick on you, is it?"

I was about to start laughing when I realized that he was quite serious with the question. I couldn't think of anything funny to say, so I responded with, "I don't know, maybe." Damn my slow wit, I blame it on work.

I am using short sentences to describe my day. Today was wonderful. I like Lucas and Eurassia, they are good friends. We played tennis today. Then I got pregnant lady cravings. We ate at Eurassia's and watched Death to Smoochy. I drove Lucas home. We discussed many things about our lives in the car. It was kind of depressing. Then, I came home and read my email. I got one from Paul Marantz, head of the Political Science Department. He said that there had been a couple of spots that had opened up in 370C. He gave me one of those spots and enrolled me in the class. Now, I actually have enough classes to graduate. Thank you Paul Marantz. Simply put, Paul Marantz is the greatest.

One more thing, tomorrow is the Vancouver High School Track and Field Championships. My sister is in it. Go John Oliver. Go Jokers!

It was another easy night at work, the fish we were doing was thin and small, making it hard to fillet and cut. This made everything very slow at work. As one of my co-workers said, it was like they were slapping us with money.

Anyways, my BCIT entrance exam is tomorrow. I've been waiting four years for to take this exam; I guess that's why I am a little nervous, even though I don't get nervous for exams. It says on the letter that it is a test of written English, general knowledge, current events and computer literacy and that I must pass before being considered for an interview. I hope I pass.

Does anyone read my livejournal? It's really boring. What else do I have to say? Oh, congratulations Neil. I predicted Detroit in six games but I was very glad to see Calgary win. I actually got off work in time go into the lunchroom and see the overtime winner. Good stuff.

I am updating this at 10:41 on a Saturday night. I don't need a quiz to tell me I am boring.

This week has had some really crappy things happen but it's been offset by many more wonderful things. My computer is absolutely gone. Got attacked by a virus or something? Anyone an expert with Windows XP?

I still haven't resolved my summer class situation yet. Just let me into your damn classes, people. Stupid Music Department. I bet no one would have predicted that the cancellation of Music 403J would one day lead to a ruining of my entire plan for completing university. Some people need to be caned.

Now, to the good stuff. Worked on Monday, it was short and not exhausting. Good Sports Department meeting on Tuesday.

Then came Wednesday and the big capture the flag game. It was really fun and I got to meet lots of random people while spending the day outside in the sun. Hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks to Lucas, Ainsley and Eurassia. In the evening, Danielle, Parmida, Laura? and Jason? went to Future Shop so Parm could get a CD player. Then we went for ice cream. Fun times.

Yesterday was hectic too. Went down to Birch Bay to visit Bouny and Shannon for a couple of hours. Biked to the state park then hung out on the beach before frantically crossing back over the border to get to the CiTR party. Good food and good times. Going to the beach was another fun adventure as was the interesting trip to Denny's. Haven't spent this much time having fun in a while. Plus, I got two straight days of real exercise. Can't complain about that.

Sitting here not studying. Just realised that this is my last Newscast ever! I can't believe it has been four wonderful years of news and sports (yes, for all you new noozies, I did do news once upon a time...before all of you came and volunteered. I miss doing some of the news, I miss being in the studio when someone mentions stumpage 10 times in a story and then laughing uncontrollably. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Big thanks to Lucas first of all. I guess we are the two old men of the news. Can anyone imagine just me and him doing the news? That's what happened for a little while before we made it our mission to recruit as many good-looking girls as possible. Somehow, it's worked out much better for him. His efforts have made the news what it is today.

Thanks to Miriam Torchinsky who put me on the air two days after I joined the station...and to think, I just wandered into the newsroom to watch baseball. Now I am in full rambling mode. Thanks to the "first batch of recruits:" Karin, Danielle and Kenneth (and Meredith and Meg, who are off doing bigger and better things). The news with you guys was a very fun time, whether it was just joking in the newsroom or going out after the cast.

Of course, thanks to the current cast of characters who have brought the quality of our newscast to its best since I have been here. Yeah, that's about it, I am sure there are more stories to tell, just can't remember them. Looking forward to tomorrow. It should be fun.

There are more thanks that should be handed out but I am tired. It's late and I need to go to sleep in order to have enough time to study for my History 425 exam on Saturday morning. Ouch.

Lucas, Eurassia and Ainsley have decided to have a giant game of CAPTURE THE FLAG!

here are the DETAILS:
meet at 1:00 pm (game ends at 5)
on April 28th
in MacInnis Field

The "court" is going to be from Crescent Road (i.e. in front of the Rose Garden and the Chan Centre) down to the Forestry Building (agronomy Road) (North-South) and East Mall to West Mall (East-West) (duh)

we haven't decided if we're dividing it at University (i.e. long and skinny) or at Main Mall (i.e. short and fat).
